Spring Cleaning- Bedroom

Spring cleaning is a tradition that allows us to freshen up our homes and get a head start on the hectic seasons of spring and summer. These cleaning tips help tidy up your bedroom.

  1. If the weather has changed, switch out your clothing for the season.

  2. Sort out your under-bed storage boxes. Is there anything in them to donate? If so, add them to your donation box.

  3. Sort through all your shoes, and if any need repairing, get them ready to take to the cobbler.

  4. Go through your dresser and pull out items of clothing you haven’t worn in a year and have no plans to wear again. Put them in your donation box.

  5. Take any clothing items that need to be repaired to the tailor. If you don’t know where to go for a good tailor, ask your dry cleaner. They will either know a good tailor or have one on staff.

  6. Remove odd socks from your sock drawer, and either toss them or use them as cleaning rags.

  7. Wash your winter gloves, hats, and scarves, and pack them up for next year. Take your winter coats to the dry cleaner.

  8. Organize your bags, including backpacks, briefcases and suitcases. Declutter the insides, then clean them and store them.

  9. Wash your bed linens, including any mattress covers, duvet covers, pillow liners, throw blankets and throw pillows.

  10. Clean the floors of your closets.

  11. Dust down the ceiling and corners of walls. Determine if the walls need to be washed in dirty spots. Spot wash, remembering air vents, doorknobs, doors, and switch plates.

  12. Dust and clean all art and photographs along the walls. Be careful when cleaning framed art and photographs. Lightly wet a clean cloth to wipe the frame and glass.

  13. Dust and clean the ceiling fan. You may need to use a gentle cleaner like Murphy's Oil Soap.

  14. Take down draperies, curtains, and blinds to wash or have cleaned according to the manufacturer's directions. Vacuum and clean windowsills and corners. Wash the insides and outsides of the windows. Take down and rinse off the screens of the windows, before replacing.

  15. Dust down and clean all accent lamps and knickknacks. Use a vacuum attachment or duster to clean the lampshades, lamps, and any extra decorative items.

  16. Vacuum or sweep/mop up the floor.
